Go Bananas!

Go Bananas!

Originally grown around Malaysia, bananas made their way to India and eventually to the West, but it was not until 1876 that Americans first tasted the banana. They were served in Pennsylvania at a celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. And we’ve been finding innovative ways to eat and serve them ever since!

Luckily, bananas are available year round. Although they may be green or greenish yellow in the store, they are ripe when they are fully yellow. Never ripen in the refrigerator, only at room temperature. If not using right away once they are ripe, you can store in the refrigerator, but know that even though the skin will turn black, the flesh of the banana is fine underneath. Another option is to peel and freeze until ready to use.

Look for Whole Trade bananas, available only in Whole Foods Market® stores... Read More

Why aren't you here?

Why aren't you here?

The other day I was reading about Twitter moving their headquarters to some skeezy part of San Francisco.

Can someone please explain why they bothered? Why does anyone locate their company in the Bay Area if they don't absolutely have to? What do they have that Sacramento doesn't?

I mean not only is the cost of living cheaper here, but the quality of life is better in Sacramento. There's almost no stress about parking. Shopping and dining is great. Parks are everywhere. Plus, rents are like half to a quarter what they are in the Bay Area. I just don't get it. Isn't paying rent a huge part of a business's expenses? And yet I realize I just put three "s" in a row and it makes that sentence look weird, but I think it's grammatically correct.

I always hear people complaining that they have a hard time doing business in California because of the laws and cost. Maybe some of those folks need to put up or shut up. Do something to cut your costs. Move to Sacramento... Read More

My Weekend According to My iPhone

My Weekend According to My iPhone

Weekends like this are the kind that make me appreciate when I have nothing going on.  Saturday I went non-stop except when I stopped briefly to changes dresses and head to the next event!  I can kind of see now why celebrities get tired of partying.  It’s a lot of work to be so glamorous.  And to answer your question, yes, I am still able to fit my big head through the door!

Happy Monday!

Sacred Objects by Mark David Manning

Manning shared his desire to “…be a reminder of nature’s sacred beauty and complexity, and the dangers man posses upon it.”

He marks man’s destruction by painting vacuum cleaners and nature’s beauty with portraits of birds and symbols like, shells. It’s just so cool asking questions and visiting with the creator of the paintings right in front of me.

I end the night waiting in front of Pete’s Coffee and Tea for my ride, it’s past 8 o’clock and SacTown night life has begun, which means this chickadee is over and out.

Will I be wandering the streets of Midtown next 2nd Saturday? You bet I will and you should come too! Did I mention it’s free? ....... Read More
